Hetero-Pathogenic O181:H4 EAHEC Strain of Sequence Type ST678 Associated with Hemolytic–Uremic Syndrome in Schoolchildren in Russia

Background: In the last decade, importance of hetero-pathogenic enteroaggregative Shiga-toxin-producing E. coli for public health has increased. Recently, we described genetic background EAHEC O181:H4 strain ST678 carrying stx2 gene in prophage and five plasmids, including plasmid-carrying aggR aaiC genes. Here, present morphological enzymatic characteristics this strain, as well susceptibility to antimicrobials, biofilm formation, etc. Methods: Bacterial morphology was studied using an electron microscope. Susceptibility antimicrobials determined microdilution method. Cytotoxicity estimated Vero cells. Virulence on mice. Results: The properties were typical coli; microscopy revealed specific flagella. susceptible most antibiotics disinfectants but resistant ampicillin ciprofloxacin showed a high degree formation. towards cells 80%.
